Prepare the Dough
Mix flour, sugar, yeast, and salt in a bowl. Add warm milk and knead until smooth (10 min).
Add softened butter and knead for another 5 minutes. Cover and chill for 2 hours.
Make the Butter Block
Place butter between parchment paper, sprinkle flour, and flatten into a 7x7-inch (18x18cm) square. Chill for 30 minutes.
Laminate the Dough
Roll out the dough into a 10x10-inch (25x25cm) square. Place the butter block in the center.
Fold like an envelope, seal edges, and roll out into a rectangle.
Fold into thirds, chill for 30 min. Repeat this process 3 times for those iconic layers!
Shape & Fill
Roll out the dough to ¼-inch thick and cut circles (about 4 inches in diameter).
Place 1 tbsp of your chosen filling in the center, fold the edges to seal, and place in muffin tins.
Cover and let rise for 1 hour.
Bake to Perfection
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
Brush tops with egg wash and bake for 18-20 minutes, until golden brown.
Let cool, then drizzle with extra chocolate or dust with powdered sugar!
