Ingredients

  • 1 lb Kielbasa sliced into bite-sized rounds
  • 4 medium Potatoes Yukon Gold or Russet, diced
  • 1 large Onion chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic minced
  • 4 cups Chicken Broth or vegetable broth for a lighter version
  • 1 cup Heavy Cream optional for a creamy texture
  • 1 tsp Smoked Paprika for a smoky depth
  • Salt and Pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp Olive Oil for sautéing
  • Optional Add-Ins: Carrots celery, spinach, or corn for extra color and nutrition

Instructions

Prepare the Ingredients:

  • Slice the kielbasa into bite-sized rounds.
  • Dice the potatoes into small, uniform pieces for even cooking.
  • Chop the onion and mince the garlic.

Sauté the Kielbasa:

  • In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
  • Add the sliced kielbasa and sauté until browned, about 5 minutes. This enhances the smoky flavor.
  • Remove the kielbasa from the pot and set aside, leaving the flavorful oil behind.

Cook the Aromatics:

  • In the same pot, add the chopped onion and minced garlic.
  • Sauté until the onion is soft and translucent, about 3 minutes.

Build the Soup Base:

  • Add the diced potatoes to the pot, stirring to coat them in the flavorful base.
  • Pour in the chicken broth, ensuring the potatoes are fully submerged.

Season and Simmer:

  • Stir in the smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
  • Bring the soup to a boil, then reduce the heat to a simmer.
  • Let it cook for 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender.

Combine and Finish:

  • Return the browned kielbasa to the pot.
  • Stir in the heavy cream for a rich, velvety texture (optional).
  • Simmer for an additional 5 minutes to blend the flavors.

Serve and Enjoy:

  • Ladle the hot soup into bowls.
  • Garnish with fresh parsley, shredded cheese, or crispy bacon bits if desired.
  • Serve with crusty bread or garlic toast for the ultimate comfort meal.

Notes

Perfect Texture: Cut the potatoes uniformly and avoid overcooking them to prevent a mushy texture.
Flavor Boosters: Smoked paprika and sautéed kielbasa enhance the smoky flavor.
Make It Your Own: Add vegetables like carrots, spinach, or corn for extra color and nutrition.
Storage and Reheating:
Refrigerate: Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
Freeze: For best results, freeze without the cream. Add cream after reheating.
Reheat: Warm on the stovetop over low heat, stirring occasionally, or microwave until hot.
