Ingredients

  • 8 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 lb breakfast sausage cooked and crumbled
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese
  • 6 cups cubed bread day-old or French bread works best
  • 1/4 cup melted butter for topping
  • Fresh parsley for garnish, optional

Instructions

  • Preheat Oven: Set oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • Prepare the Base: Spread cubed bread evenly in the baking dish. Sprinkle the cooked sausage over the bread, followed by the shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheeses.
  • Mix Egg Mixture: In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, salt, pepper, and garlic powder until fully combined.
  • Assemble Casserole: Pour the egg mixture over the bread and sausage, making sure everything is evenly soaked.
  • Chill (Optional): For extra flavor, cover and refrigerate overnight or at least 1 hour to let the bread absorb the liquid.
  • Bake: Drizzle melted butter over the top and bake uncovered for 45-50 minutes or until the top is golden and the center is set.
  • Serve: Garnish with fresh parsley, slice, and enjoy warm!

Notes

Chill for Best Results: Letting the casserole sit for an hour or overnight in the fridge allows the bread to fully absorb the egg mixture, making it rich and custardy.
